Fast 4x4's

OOPS

LOOK I CAN FLY

After starting as an apprentice mechanic in the early 90's and serving the compulsary four years at a dealership I soon realised my passion for making horsepower.

Next for me was Gasresearch Australia, after fitting my Dodge Phoenix with a twin carby Gasresearch system I took it to see Leigh Sharples and Steve Malone, the brains behind the Gasresearch Carby, I was offered a position as fitter/tuner.

I owe a lot to my time at Gasresearch Australia, as a small business product development consisted of a lot of late evenings off the clock playing with camshafts, timing, manifolds and alike on the dyno developing a range of the best LPG power combinations.

Over four years, I worked my way to head mechanic and dyno tuner, and assisted in the development of high flow converters and designed the fast idle system employed when installing Gasresearch to an EFI vehicle.

Still good

Keen to do more with myself when the opportunity arrived to purchase the workshop side of Gasresearch Australia I rounded up a friend and associate and entered into business as Gasresearch Performance Centre.

The LPG industry thrived up to 2000 when the GST put a major dent in the scheme of things fortunatly we had turned to the busines to other things. We had all the gear, chassis dyno, scope, hoists and so on so had started tuning EFI and developing engine for petrol as well as LPG. Interestingly much of the time and energy spent developing performance packages for LPG transfered to petrol.

Adjusting the roof after a little issue
Gasresearch Performance Centre had aquired Haltech a distributorship and I was regularly tuning Haltech,Wolf, carbies as well as LPG.

I left Automotive for a short period, disallusioned with a business partnership that was proving difficult but soon found myself back at Gasresearch Performance Centre as manager working for my old business partner who was finding the running of business solo to not be all he had imagined.

It was only 12 months before the business was sold to Swift Automotive a nearby automotive workshop with some performance work and one of the first to have LS1 Edit.

For the new owners I was second in charge and remained the primary dynotuner where I was given opportunites with LS1 Edit and SCT for Ford as well as a plethora of assorted other programs including Motec, Autronic and others. I spent considerable time learning a US software package for GM and its application for early Holden software for VN to VS with real time tuning capabilities.

An offer from James at PGS 4wd to work for him if he bought a dyno became a reality as in Feb '07 I started at PGS 4wd. The Dynamic Test Systems 4wd dyno arrived in early March and since we have been building a steady flow of dyno work.
The great thing, apart from the people, about PGS is James has a shared passion for 4wd competition and the equipment to match, TIG and MIG, metal folders and roll cage benders just the beginning enabling just about ant form of custom fabrication.

LS1 5.7Litre TO4ZR turbo intercooled comp truck, should be ready soon!
